Joe retired from his successful land-use business some 13 years ago at the age of 55. He and his wife Maria now enjoy peaceful days in San Bernardino with their children and grandchildren. Having given up his business suit, Joe adorns himself with overalls and tinkers around with his vintage cars. Five years ago this all came to a halt, Joe was severely injured while replacing an engine in his 1932 Ford Roadster and was rushed to St. Bernardine Medical Center’s Emergency Department and then into surgery. Maria was very worried about their future. As with many others, our knowledgeable physicians and nurses were able to stop the internal bleeding and mend his broken bones. Joe was back to working on his cars in no time.
Even today, Joe and Maria praise the care they received at St. Bernardine Medical Center and have frequently discussed giving to St. Bernardine Medical Center. During a discussion with their attorney, they decided to take action so they made an appointment with the Foundation.
Joe and Marie talked to a planned giving specialist at the Foundation and realized that a flexible charitable gift annuity was a good fit for them. With a charitable gift annuity, Joe and Maria could donate cash or other property to the foundation and in return they receive guaranteed payments for life. Joe and Maria select a target date to begin receiving payments but they can elect to receive annuity payments earlier than the target date or later, it’s flexible!
Joe and Maria are very happy with their decision and their ability to leave a lasting legacy with their cherished hospital.
